Uniquely amongst\u00a0nations around the world, all of the 200-plus winter\u00a0sports resorts in Switzerland can be accessed by public transport. Despite the multitude of railway, bus and aerial lift operators the services all integrate seamlessly and as reliably as\u00a0Switzerland&#8217;s famous timepieces.<br \/>\n<ins class=\"bookingaff\" data-aid=\"1255724\" data-target_aid=\"380878\" data-prod=\"nsb\" data-width=\"100%\" data-height=\"auto\"><br \/>\n    <!-- Anything inside will go away once widget is loaded. --><br \/>\n    <a href=\"\/\/www.booking.com?aid=380878\">Booking.com<\/a><br \/>\n<\/ins><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\">\n    (function(d, sc, u) {\n      var s = d.createElement(sc), p = d.getElementsByTagName(sc)[0];\n      s.type = 'text\/javascript';\n      s.async = true;\n      s.src = u + '?v=' + (+new Date());\n      p.parentNode.insertBefore(s,p);\n      })(document, 'script', '\/\/aff.bstatic.com\/static\/affiliate_base\/js\/flexiproduct.js');\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n<div>Winter sports first began in the Swiss Alps, in traditional mountain communities and well established summer resorts, and most Swiss ski\u00a0and snowboard destinations are pretty &#8211; often car-free &#8211;\u00a0villages with strong identities and a rich history. Incidentally &#8220;car-free&#8221; does not mean the Swiss do not encourage driving &#8211; petrol is cheaper than elsewhere in Europe and the road network is efficient &#8211; it is just that many of the communities\u00a0have simply elected to have car drivers park lower in the valley or on the edge of their village.<\/div>\n<div>Despite a reputation for being expensive, winter sports in Switzerland\u00a0are usually cheaper (depending on exchange rates) than France,\u00a0and provides\u00a0better value for money than\u00a0the USA. It\u00a0is also higher and more snow-sure than other Alpine nations, giving you the the best opportunity to\u00a0have a\u00a0fabulous time during your visit.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.oatridge.co.uk\/nic\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/T_1060_TURN_chi_dice_ski_monnerat_ca1955.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-87\" title=\"T_1060_TURN_chi_dice_ski_monnerat_ca1955\" src=\"http:\/\/www.oatridge.co.uk\/nic\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/T_1060_TURN_chi_dice_ski_monnerat_ca1955.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"81\" height=\"131\" \/><\/a>\u00a0There are no guarantees though! Skiing and snowboarding are clearly outdoors sports enjoyed in what can be a very inhospitable or\u00a0changeable environments. Depending on whether you are looking for a last minute break or planning\u00a0 the ski holiday of a lifetime, I&#8217;m hoping I can give you some tips on where and when to go to ensure you\u00a0 have a great time on the slopes &#8211; and off them.<\/div>\n<div>I have skied in Switzerland for 20 years now. I&#8217;m planning on recording here my experiences not only of the top resorts, but also some of the many smaller gems. I&#8217;m also keen to hear from other\u00a0people who can share their experiences of skiing or snowboarding in Switzerland &#8211; food and lodging recommendations, off-piste itineraries, good guides, insights into the areas&#8230; basically anything about Switzerland during the winter months.
